The WNA Nuclear Energy Index Committee maintains oversight over the selection process of companies to be included in the WNA Nuclear Energy IndexSM. The Index Committee convenes quarterly to nominate companies from around the world for inclusion in the WNA Nuclear Energy IndexSM and to review and approve additions, deletions and changes. The Members of the Index Committee are: John Ritch, Director General, The World Nuclear Association. John Ritch came to the WNA in January 2001 after seven years as U.S. ambassador to UN organizations in Vienna, among them the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization. In Vienna, he was active in promoting the IAEA's global strengthened-safeguards system and new conventions on nuclear safety. He participated in the U.S.-North Korea nuclear negotiations and the UN Conferences reviewing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1995 and 2000. Previously Amb. Ritch was a staff adviser to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 22 years, specializing in East-West relations and nuclear arms control. During that period, he was also an entrepreneur, heading a real estate development company and co-founding a multinational enterprise marketing fitness-related products throughout Europe. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds a Master's Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. Zack Pate, Co-Chairman, World Nuclear Association Council. Dr. Zack Pate has earned a worldwide reputation as a nuclear pioneer - first as President of the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations (1983-1997), and later as Chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (1997-2002). Dr. Pate's emphasis on standardized, rigorous, accredited training gave impetus to the concept of a worldwide "safety culture" in the nuclear industry. In guiding the industry toward high and consistent levels of performance, his career helped to lay the foundation for a renaissance of nuclear power worldwide. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Pate holds a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from M.I.T. Serving in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1980, Pate commanded nuclear-powered submarines and was a special assistant to Admiral Hyman Rickover. Dr. Pate is a recipient of the James N. Landis Medal, the William S. Lee Award for "visionary leadership in encouraging and promoting excellence throughout the nuclear power industry", and the Henry DeWolf Smyth Nuclear Statesman Award. In 2002, Dr. Pate was honored by the World Nuclear Association for his "distinguished contribution to the peaceful worldwide uses of nuclear energy" as a founder and leader of WANO.Today he is WANO's Chairman-Emeritus. Joseph LaCorte, CFA, Managing Member, S-Network Global Indexes, LLC. Mr. LaCorte is presently a Managing Member of S-Network, a New York based consulting firm specializing in the development of indexes, quantitative asset management products and structured products, including exchange traded funds and over-the-counter derivatives. In the past five years, he served as a Managing Director of UBS, with responsibility for that firm’s global exchange traded fund (ETF) initiative. Prior to that, Mr. LaCorte served as managing member of S-Network LLC, where he maintained responsibility for key clients, including the American Stock Exchange, Deutsche Borse and State Street Bank & Trust. Mr. LaCorte was also a Managing Director of Deutsche Bank, responsible for that bank’s US index arbitrage and portfolio trading businesses. He worked as part of the management teams at both Nomura and Kidder Peabody in the similar capacities. While at each of these firms, their index arbitrage businesses were the largest in the United States.
